Switching on lights
  • If you need light, switch on only that light and switch off all unnecessary lights
  • Use only the required strength of bulbs. For ex: don’t use high watts bulbs in bedrooms
         & bathrooms.
  • Use bulbs in minimum watts which are sufficient to do your work. ex: Use low watt
         table lamps at your worktable.
  • Use Fluorescent Bulbs or Compact Fluorescent where possible. These are bulbs that
give high levels of light with low level of watts.
  • Use lighter shades of color on your walls. It reflects more light than a darker color would.
  • Construct doors & windows in the direction of sunlight to capture sunlight.

  • Table fans and pedestal fans are more energy saving than ceiling fans.
  • Add new electronic controllers instead of traditional speed controllers.

  • When using Air Conditioners

  • Close all doors and windows to prevent air leakage.
  • To minimize the direct hit of sun light, plant trees around the place that you use Air
          Conditioner
  • Reduce the usage of heat releasing equipment inside the Air Conditioner rooms.
         Ex ; photocopy machines
  • Clean air filters regularly
  • Keep your temperature at high level and adjust the louvers only if possible.
  • Don’t place objects which may hinder air circulation.

    When using a refrigerator

  • To allow the condenser system to cool at the proper rate, keep 10 cm at the back and
         30 cm above.
  • Reduce the number of openings and duration the door is open.
  • Allow your food to cool before placing them inside.
  • Keep appropriate room within the fridge to allow proper air circulation.
  • Wrap your food with polythene or paper before placing them in the fridge.
