The Indurana mini hydro power project of the SLSEA is located in the Indurana village of the Indurana Grama Niladhari Division. The project is under construction and would be completed this year (2010).
The installed capacity of the project is 64 kW, which would add 0.28 GWh to the national grid per annum.
The objectives of the project are to:
(a)
Function as a centre to demonstrate the technology of mini hydro power generation to the university students and school children.
(b)
Function as a teaching centre placing special emphasis on plant operation and management
(c)
Further, the project would benefit national development through the introduction of environmentally friendly indigenous power sources and associated technologies and also contribute to reducing greenhouse gases thereby minimising air pollution
