CLEAN DEVELOPMENT MECHANISM

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), defined in Article 12 of the Kyoto Protocol, allows a country with an emission-reduction or emission-limitation commitment under the Kyoto Protocol to implement an emission-reduction project in developing countries. http://cdm.unfccc.int/index.html

Sri Lanka acceded to the Kyoto Protocol on 03 September, 2002 and therefore is eligible for CDM. However, the application of CDM is relatively new to the country and hence little explored.

The SEA has calculated the Certified Emission Reduction Units (CERs) projected to be generated from renewable energy and energy management activities. Following is a summary of the calculations.
