AWARENESS PROGRAMMES

The SEA conducts Awareness programmes on renewable energy for Divisional Secretaries and District Secretaries. It has been brought to our notice that many DS officers are unaware of the renewable energy development programme undertaken by the Government to realise the goal of generating 10% of electricity from non-conventional renewable. As a result, a great delay is experienced in granting approvals and releasing state land for renewable energy projects. In general terms, a delay of a single year can be interpreted as an expenditure of LKR 25 million on fuel imports for each 1 MW of Small Hydro Power Capacity is thus delayed. Therefore, considering the need to circumvent these delays by way of creating awareness among DSs, a series of awareness workshops have been scheduled in the following districts.

(a) Kegalle and Ratnapura
(b) Nuwara Eliya, Badulla and Monaragala
(c) Kalutara, Galle, Matara and Hambantota
(d) Puttalam and Mannar
