| HISTORICAL GENERATION DATA |
| |
| This page gives the daily electricity generation (GWh) and the peak demand (MW) of the past years. The generation mix is dominated by thermal and hydro resources. This is why the Daily Energy Update, which appears on our homepage, reflects only the contribution from thermal and hydro. However, in addition to this, there are other energy resources like wind, solar and biomass, which also contribute to power generation. Their contribution stands near 6% at present and they are referred to as non-conventional renewable resources (NCRE). For more information on NCRE, please refer Renewable Energy Resources in Sri Lanka |

| The peak demand, as its name implies, refers to the maximum demand for electricity during the day. Usually, the peak demand is recorded in the evenings of the Vesak festive season every year because power is heavily utilised for country-wide illumination. The highest peak demand recorded so far was 1922.2MW in year 2008. The daily electricity demand also varies at a predictable pattern, which is called the daily load profile.
