| OUTLINE OF JICA ACTIVITIES |

Energy efficiency is a key player in a country’s economic growth. The Government of Sri Lanka identified this aspect and joined hands with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to promote energy efficiency in the country.The overall goal of the project on “Promoting Energy Efficiency Improvement in Sri Lanka” is to achieve high efficiency in energy consumption by energy efficiency improvement using Japan’s most advanced energy saving capabilities and technologies.
The target is to reduce Primary Energy Intensity below 500 TOE/SDR (Mn) by year 2017. |

| 4 th JCC MEETING AT THE MINISTRY OF POWER & ENERGY |

| The 4th Joint Committee Meeting on the project for Promoting Energy Efficiency Improvement Project in Sri Lanka was held on 14th October 2009 at the Ministry of Power and Energy. Under the project, a 3 years technical assistance programme for energy efficiency improvement in Sri Lanka is being carried out and progress of the programme at the midterm stage was reviewed at the meeting. |
