Limit the use of ceiling fans. They consume more energy than pedestal fans or table fans.Keep your fan in good working order. Check the manufacturer’s recommendations for care and maintenance. Place the fan where you feel the breeze directly.
AIR CONDITIONERS
Do you use air conditioners to keep your establishment cool?
Please make note of the following tips
(a)
Use air conditioners moderately. Keep the places cool, not freezing cold. The ideal temperature is 26 0C.
(b)
An air conditioner is a refrigerator sans the insulated box. It uses evaporation of a refrigerant to provide cooling.
(c)
Think twice before switching on an AC. Use a fan, unless it’s absolutely necessary.
(d)
Remove excessive clothes. They make the AC work harder to make you cold.
(e)
Set the thermostat at 26 degrees Celsius. An extra degree of Celcius difference in temperature adds around 4 % to cooling costs.
(f)
Install a programmable thermostat to better tab your schedule
(g)
Keep filters clean. Clean ductwork/vents. Clogged filters reduce air flow, forcing compressors to work hard.
(h)
Keep windows/doors closed when the cooling system is on. Window shades can to reduce/ block sunlight and heat during daytime.
(i)
Install window unit ACs on the shadiest side of the building. Grow trees to shade the unit from sunlight.
(j)
Seal cracked/broken windows, electrical outlets and switches on walls. Seal air leaks where plumbing, ducting and electrical wiring penetrates walls.
(h)
Use fans with the AC. They will circulate air from the AC. This wind chill effect can make ambient temperatures feel up to 7 degrees cooler.
